While we patiently wait for the slow trickle of country reopenings, now is a good time to go dust off your passport and check that expiration date. And while you’re at it, have you made a plan to acquire your REAL ID yet? Both items are key to your future travel preparedness, and we want you to be ready.
Did you know that many countries require you to have 6+ months remaining on your passport in order to travel? If you are within one year of your passport expiring, you may want to consider starting the renewal process so you don’t run into any issues at customs. Many government agencies have also not been working at their pre-Covid paces, which means it may take longer than normal to process your request. If you do find yourself needing to renew, here’s a LINK to get you started.
You should also have the REAL ID on your radar this year. While not a required form of identification, that little star icon will be your passport for flying domestically starting October 1, 2021. Alternatively, you can use your passport, but if you’re a frequent flyer it will definitely make your life easier to update to the REAL ID. The last thing you want is to be turned away by TSA at the security line because you have a standard driver’s license and forgot to bring your passport with you for that flight to New York.
Let’s ensure we’re all ready to travel to your dream destination as soon as it’s possible and when you’re comfortable doing so. And remember, the advisors here at Off On Vacation are here to help if you have any questions.
